Prof George Awuku Asare
Professor George Awuku Asare is a Chemical Pathology Lecturer /Researcher in the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, University of Ghana. After completing his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry (University of Ghana), he pursued a post graduate degree in Chemical Pathology (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana). While pursuing his doctorate degree at the University of the Witswatersrand (South Africa), he developed the first animal model of dietary iron overload leading to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the total absence of cirrhosis and fibrosis. His research interest has since been in the area tumourigenesis and carcinogenesis. He is currently the principal investigator of a multidisciplinary group researching into the use of phytomedicines for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Professor George Awuku Asare is the Head of Department (Medical Laboratory Sciences, University of Ghana) and has been nominated to serve as Editor-in-Chief of a South African Journal currently being developed.
